Edwin Ernesto Rivera Gracias
We have been writing a lot lately about what’s wrong in law enforcement. But for those of us who study criminal justice, here’s a genuine feel-good story.
On March 27, 2013, the FBI announced the arrest of Salvadorian national Edwin Ernesto Rivera Gracias in his home country, thus removing one of the “Ten Most Wanted” from its celebrated wish list. The Bureau did not say what intelligence or investigative leads had led to Rivera Gracias’s capture, but he certainly sounds like a certifiably bad actor.
In August 2011, Rivera Gracias allegedly choked, beat and stabbed to death a 69-year-old longtime friend of the family of the offender’s teenage girlfriend. The suspect is also a member of the notorious and deadly Mara Salvatrucha – or MS-13 – gang.
So congratulations to the Bureau and let’s hope they continue “getting their man.”
