President Obama speaking about Trayvon Martin

President Obama speaking about Trayvon Martin

Outrage over the senseless shooting death of Australian Christopher Lane by three depraved and soulless teens has prompted vocal and vehement commentary from many quarters and even a call from some Australian officials for their countrymen and women not to visit the United States. This is all natural and understandable.

But unless I have missed it, there has been no public statement from the White House or President Obama on the scale of his remarks on the Trayvon Martin case.

Why not?

The reason I bring this up is that both cases rise above their own particulars and are therefore symbolic. What does the Martin case tell us about racial attitudes and tensions in the United States? By the same token, the Lane case brings up some pretty devastating things about violence in America and the banality of evil. Where were the parents to teach these guys right from wrong? Why did they have no conscience? What is the role of the community?

President Obama rightly pointed out that Trayvon Martin could have been him at an earlier age. But now he should point out that Chis Lane could have been any of us at any age.

There are no nuances to this story. It is a basic question of right and wrong. And our President should lead the discussion – a discussion in which all of us have the largest possible stake.

The President must have known before he gave his speech on Trayvon that Zimmerman would be found not guilty (Pres was a lawyer), and he still choose to more bring public attention to this incident, why? to inkindle race issues? no. to help prosecute Zimmerman? not a chance. knowing that Zimmerman would go free and that would anger and depress many people but they still need something or someone to put the blam on to relieve all that tension and to get a feeling of justice served, but there is no one to blam, oh but wait! we can blam it on the gun… after all if he did not have a gun this would not have happend. Why bring so much attention to an incident of a man defended himself? It was a terrible tragity Zimmerman shoul have made better choices before he was attact, but while he was being “ground and pounded” it very well may have been the only split second choice he could make.

i got a bit off the topic. I think the Lane incident will also be discussed a even compared to Trayvon and it will be used to further the gun control agenda. Werent there more guns on the street and easier to get years ago, yet kids in general did not go around shooting joggers for fun? mabey they were, i dont know.

Gun Control and Black Power was the purpose of Obama getting involved in the Trayvon Martin case, to stir up racial conflict and it’s working. Many black on white crimes, including murders being committed and they aren’t getting the attention that Trayvon received, except as an excuse to call for gun control, Trayvon’s Law. Traitor, Dictator, Obama wants to take guns away from law abiding citizens so he can rise in power without fear of being shot. Criminals don’t obey laws.

On August 21st, White House Deputy Press Secretary, Josh Earnest says, he’s not familiar with the Chris Lane murder and wouldn’t want to get ahead of the Legal Process.

  3. sherry says:

Al Sharpton says, “The three were arrested, there was nothing to protest, the system worked there. And racial? Not only did the police not say it was racial, one of the three were white.”

  4. Cornerstone says:

Simply put, President Obama and the Department of Justice have painted themselves into a corner after their handling of the Trayvon Martin case, which was essentially deflecting the issue and throwing out the placebo of challenging Stand Your Ground, which wasn’t even part of the trial and promising an investigation (really? Wasn’t preparation for the trial the investigation?) I wrote DOJ and said I assume since they feel so strongly about it they will be doing a DOJ investigation into the Lane murder. It’s too sensitive of a subject for anyone much to want to address, media or leaders, but until we start acknowledging and enforcing all racial bias instead of bias only against one race, nothing is ever going to resolve because that in itself perpetuates tension.
