“I’m not going anywhere, guaranteed.”
Thus spake Mayor Rob Ford, the embattled chief executive of Toronto, the largest city in Canada. He was responding to calls for him to resign amidst the growing scandal over his dabbling in crack cocaine.
What I want to know is: How come you and I know he’s on his way out and he doesn’t?
This incident calls from recent memory San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, who also pledged not to resign after the revelation that he had repeatedly groped, harassed and otherwise taken advantage of women working with and around him. He thought a two-week leave of absence for therapy was going to do the trick.
Now, the question is, do these guys really think they are going to keep their jobs in the public trust once this kind of thing is made public? Does Mayor Ford believe he hasn’t forfeited public confidence that he could properly handle a 9/11 type terrorist attack, a major pandemic or a high casualty natural disaster, should he be called upon to deal with it?
It may be that he’s just toughing it out for leverage to make a better deal, bartering his cooperation in going peacefully. Or it may be that this guy is such a malignant narcissist that he actually believes himself. I know it’s difficult to fathom that a politician might actually have narcissistic tendencies bordering on psychopathy in which truth is just a commodity and what is good for him is good for everyone else, but there you are.
Just remember one thing, Mayor Ford: Your job is in the gift of the people, and the people are not fooled. So see ya later . . . much later. You’re on your way out, guaranteed.
And let that be a lesson to the rest of you bums!
He’s a arrogant malignant narcissist I think. You or I and others being normal and having common sense would….make a plan, resign, go into treatment etc. But a lot of the people in politics (and crime) are about as far as you can get from normal. They only ‘look’ normal (ok maybe not this guy Rob Ford). In my opinion they are….ego driven…feel superior….untouchable. When this guy does ‘fall’ I would predict him then a suicide (if his weight alone doesn’t get him first).
