Anthony Brinkman

Anthony Brinkman

Take a look at this case and then tell me what you would want to do to this guy if you ever came in contact with him. It would be difficult not to take the law into one’s own hands, at least for me.

Anthony Brinkman, 32, of Cuba, Missouri, allegedly arranged online to have his 11-year-old daughter beaten and raped while he watched. He had placed an ad, which was answered by a 27-year-old woman who agreed to meet him at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in South St. Louis, about 80 miles from his home. This wasn’t just a sick and perverse fantasy for Mr. Brinkman. He actually drove with the little girl to the Cracker Barrel.

Fortunately, the woman taking him up on the offer to beat and assault his child turned out to be a police officer specializing in cyber crimes, and when Brinkman and the girl showed up at the restaurant parking lot, he was swiftly arrested.

Female police officers took her back to headquarters and contacted relatives to take her into their care.

Detective Mike Slaughter, who put the cuffs on Brinkman, reported that the suspect said “he was sorry and that it was stupid.”

Ya think, Mr. Brinkman?

But as Slaughter told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (a paper I am proud to have worked for early in my career), “You don’t let it go that far if you don’t have intentions.”

Amen, Detective.

Slaughter added, “If we hadn’t gotten involved and someone bad had gotten in touch with him, something bad would have happened to that little girl.” Officers say Brinkman sent photographs of his daughter to his supposed contact and posted them online.

Congratulations to the police. From the time Brinkman posted the ad until his arrest, less than 48 hours elapsed.

There is no evidence so far that Brinkman had physically or sexually abused his daughter in the past, but police are carefully looking into every possibility while he sits in jail under a heavy cash-only bond on charges of attempted statutory sodomy. Other charges, including sex trafficking a minor, should soon come out of a grand jury. Police have also seized his computers, from which I would certainly expect more evidence. You don’t suddenly come up with such a hideous plan without some prior “background.”

And that is just the point. Any man who thinks and acts as Brinkman allegedly did can never be trusted in the outside world. Whether it is through a long prison sentence alone, or a combination of that and then a mandatory mental commitment hearing, this guy needs to be kept off the streets. He will remain dangerous for the rest of his natural life. You can count on that.

It’s difficult to believe this kind of horror exists among us. But it does. Call him evil or call him sick; it doesn’t matter in practical terms – There is no cure.

Emotionally, I would like to remove predators such as this from the face of the earth. Legally, we have to do whatever we can.

His own daughter. . .

He had already harmed his daughter, that’s a safe bet. He’s left behind a trail of victims of his perversion I’m sure.

A useless waste of oxygen. Why couldn’t this guy be one of the thousands of people who disappear yearly? Or one of the ones the aliens abduct? On a happy note, he will probably kill himself. Losers like this usually do when they know that they are caught and have no way out.

  3. Tom Mininger says:

Thank God the police got to this guy first, but like others have stated, I fear what they are going to find in his past.

Seriously wonder about people like this. You don’t simply do something like this on a whim, he has to have done something similar in the past. I’d be following up on any kids he’s had contact with in the past decade to make sure something sinister hasn’t occurred.

With you 100% on this one Mark; that really is difficult to put into words that one. Well done to the police involved for nailing him so swiftly. Now all we need to do is lock him up in general population, let word get out about what he did, and let natural selection take it’s course.

    • I try not to be vindictive, Joel, but this one really tests me.

      • JoelMurdoch says:

Of course it does. You are human and you care about kids. I have a very dear friend who was let down by her parents. She was abused by many and they did not protect her like they should have. She deals with the consequences to this day.

Her case and this case are representative of a fundamental failure of what should be the most sacred and dependable of bonds, one that should never break. But it does, and way too often.
