When Italian police released this photo, many in the media and public wondered how an innocent Amanda Knox possibly could have missed a bloody scene this obvious when she entered the bathroom. But the red stains on the sink, cabinet and toilet are not blood, but rather the results fuming for latent fingerprints with cyanoacrylate and a staining reagent.
The photo below is what the sink actually looked like when the police crime scene team arrived. If you look closely, you may note a small spot of blood on the faucet, which is what Amanda noticed.
This was only one of several strategies the Perugia police and prosecutors used to undermine Amanda’s legitimate claim of innocence in the murder of her flat mate Meredith Kercher.
